India and Japan dealt with their outside controllers leaving positive advances, however when trying to escape, India took longer than Japn with documentation. Also, religions were taken advantaged of.

India and japan both tolerated their outside controllers, which led to positive advances for the two countries however, trying to escape from these foriegn influences was a much longer process for India than it was for Japan. religions were also taken advantage of.
In the 1860's Japan showed emotion and devotion to the unequal treaties bestowed on them. Thus a huge difference in having Imperial Japan.
Japan began to stretch its boundaries in
First in the 1870's to the North (Hokkaido Kurile) Islands.
Then in 1879 they dominated the South ( Okinawa and Ryuku Islands).
So the Japanese began to retaliate to those who tried to control.
Industrialization in Japan was also promoted by government
Hired thousands of foreign experts to establish modern industries
Created new industries; opened technical institutes and universities
Government-owned businesses were then sold to private entrepreneurs (zaibatsu)
IN INDIA WITH THE BRITISH
After the Mughal decline, India was taken advantage of Britian
Trading cities were built
British Imperial Rule replaced the EIC in 1858

19th century, western europe was industrializing and Japan could not keep up with these technologies (largely due to cutting themselves off from outside world in 1600's)
Japanese government was having trouble controlling citizens (1450's) : robberies and other forms of theift
Industrialization increased the demand for raw materials (cotton came from India)
Nonindustrialized societies became suppliers of raw materials
the age of conquest (1750-1857) initiated by the british in India
able to take advantage of the declining moghul and manchu empires
because british had to administer such a large area of land (particularly in india) they had to create a more modern form of administration that included a large body of indigenous administrators...a policy foriegn to the indigenous peoples (called the law of rule)
